Opal are well-known all over the world for their distinctive printed sock and sweater yarns and are a strong favourite among knitters looking for colourful and unique yarns for accessories and garments. They currently make multicolour print, stripes, confetti and flame effect yarns but are always on the hunt for new and exciting ideas in colour.
Opal Yarn is produced by a family run business with over 30 years of experience based in Hechingen, Germany, and their whole production (printing, washing, steaming and balling) including sales and marketing is based there in one location. They are proud to be the initiators of this particular abstract style of printed yarn having brought their collection inspired by the themes of the late artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser to fruition in 2006.
Opal’s most popular base is 75% wool 25% nylon – a superb blend suitable for creating hard-wearing knitwear, especially socks. They also offer other compositions with polypropylene, cotton, silk or bamboo.
